Hey! What’s Going On?

All kinds of things are going on in the community lately, it seems. Some of these are really exciting. So I thought I’d share some of the things I’m looking forward to or keeping an eye on as the weather starts to warm up.

Art Studio

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of meeting Sandra Zylla-Rolf, who is opening a new art studio today in Becker. Sandra has the kind of awesome energy we all remember from our favorite school teachers, and it seems like her classes will definitely be worth checking out! I look forward to signing up and learning some new skills.

New City Administrator

Greg Pruszinske left the city in pursuit of a new job up north, and his position has finally been filled. I met Greg Lerud at the city council meeting on Tuesday, and he seems like he’s eager to go! I always appreciate talking with someone who seems passionate about their job. Good luck to him as he steps into his new role!

Warm Weather

Is anyone starting to itch to get outside? It seems like I’ve been cooped up indoors for the last six months. Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why you had to hide away for so long! I’m ready for taking long walks and dragging my kayak out of the garage!

BLPD Chief Search

I recently had a chit chat with one of the talented Big Lake Police Officers (I won’t name them, to preserve their privacy) and it seems like the hunt for a new chief is coming along. I’m excited to see who fills the role! It seems to me that Acting Chief Sam Olson is doing an excellent job in the meantime keeping the department running smoothly. After the changes in leadership over the last year, it will be great for the city to once again fill the chief role.

Becker School Board

Speaking of upheaval, there’s a lot going on at Becker Schools lately, and I was surprised to learn that two board members resigned last month. The board is searching for candidates to fill the roles for the remainder of the members’ terms. Could be a great opportunity for someone looking to serve the community!

Fire Dept. Dance

The Big Lake Fire Reserves will be holding their annual dance at the fire hall in August. I know it’s a ways away, but it sounds like a lot of fun! I missed their recent chili cookoff. So I’m hoping I can attend the ball and support the department this summer. Something to put on the calendar anyway!

Easter

The Easter Bunny is on his way! Be on the lookout for hidden eggs! I’m looking forward to having dinner with my family, and of course giving thanks to the sacrifice Jesus made so we can enjoy springtime and community. Have a great holiday, everyone!
