This past weekend, the Becker youth wrestling team traveled to Fargo to wrestle in the “Rumble on the Red” wrestling tournament and took home fourth place out of 17 teams.
The “Rumble on the Red” tournament has a reputation as being one of the toughest tournaments in the country in which teams from at least four states participate.
Becker finished fourth and won over the Carrington, N.D., Montana A and Aberdeen, SD teams. They had close losses to Brookings, SD and the Tech Team 1.
One thing that is unique about Becker’s role is that they are able to do well with kids only from their small community while many of the other teams filled their squads with kids from other clubs.
In addition, Becker had six of the kids place in the individual tournament Sunday and another individual placed at Badgerland Nationals in Wisconsin.
“Wrestling teaches and promotes a good hard work ethic and the kids from Becker Youth Wrestling are finding out how much fun the results can be,” said Coach Ryan DeWall.
Individual medalists included: Bennett Vogel - fourth place; Kaden Nicolas - fourth place; Mason Doucette - second place; Caden DeWall - fourth place; Brayden Weber - fourth place and Lukas Paulson - fifth place.
Owen Angell wrestled at the Badgerland Nationals and placed third.
The team consists of Bennett Vogel, Kaden Nicolas, Drew May, Kaden Rish, Ethan Anderson, Ethan Duncombe, Mason Doucette, Lukas Paulson, Carter Neu, Kylen Rish, Caden DeWall, Brayden Weber, Jacob Eich, Liam Jenkins, Bennett Edling, Dylan Weber, Tyson Ricker and Landon Vogel.
