Wrestlers Start Season 5 0

The Becker Bulldogs wrestling team opened their season with three big wins at last week’s quadrangular and another two wins at this week’s dual, bringing their season to 5-0 and 2-0 in the conference.

Three Bulldogs have also reached career milestones already, including junior Lukas Paulson (145), who earned his 100th career win and 50th career pin.

At last week’s quadrangular hosted by the Bulldogs, the team defeated Mississippi 8 Conference foe Chisago Lakes 76-6, Section 6AA foe Rockford 84-0 and Milaca 60-9.

Kaden Rish (113), Ethan Duncombe (120), Ethan Anderson (132), Jake Nelson (138), Lukas Paulson (145), Kylen Rish (160), Caden Dewall (182), Reid Kraus (1950 and Brayden Weber (220) all went 3-0 and Landen Kujawa (106), Jake Rosenow (126) and Ryan Nelson (152) all went 2-0 at the quadrangular.

Two of the Bulldog wrestlers reached career milestones during the match, with sophomore Ethan Anderson (132) and junior Brayden Weber (220) both achieving their 60th win.

Thursday’s dual against Hibbing, final score 69-12 and Princeton 40-32 had seven Bulldogs going 2-0, including Ethan Anderson (126, 132), Lukas Paulson (145), Kylen Rish (170), Caden Dewall (182), Reid Kraus (195), Brayden Weber (220) and Dylan Kolby (285).

“Our win over Princeton was a tough one,” said Head Coach Matt Aho. “We had to overcome a 32-10 deficit and win our last six matches to win the dual 40-32. Our wrestlers showed a lot of heart and kept believing the whole match.”

Paulson (145) earned his 100th career win and 50th career pin during the match.

“This is an awesome accomplishment for Lukas and we’re excited to for him,” said Aho. “Congrats!”

With their victories the Bulldogs are currently rated 10th in state.

The Bulldogs are wrestling at Delano Saturday (today) and will be competing at a quadrangular at Monticello on Thursday. Both matches will be covered in next week’s edition of the Citizen-Tribune.
