After a successful season, the Becker Bulldogs wrestling team came together last week for their end-of-the-season banquet.
“I’m proud of the team this year,” said Head Coach Matt Aho. “All the wrestlers really came together and worked hard. You could really tell that everyone wanted to be their best and wanted the team to be its best.”
Along with sharing thoughts regarding this year’s season and getting excited for next year, team awards and recognitions were handed out to numerous athletes during the event.
Nick Goth, Jake Nelson, John Stangler, Lukas Paulson, Caden Dewall, Brayden Weber, Ryan Nelson, Joe Goth, Bryce Kuschel, Isaac Regel and Tyson Ricker were awarded most dedicated.
Most outstanding varsity was awarded to Jake Nelson; most outstanding junior varsity went to John Stangler and Ryan Nelson. Caden Dewall was awarded most improved varsity and Joe Goth most improved junior varsity. Rookie of the year went to Reid Kraus.
Jake Nelson received the most team points (195) and most wins (42). Logan Jurek received most pins (21), Lukas Paulson the most takedowns (73) and Caden Dewall the most N2 (13). Kylen Rish received most N3 (24), Most E1 (40) and most reversals (30).
Milestone achievements were also recognized. Ethan Anderson, Jake Nelson, Kylen Rish and Brayden Weber achieved their 50th career wins, Jake Nelson, Logan Jurek and Kylen Rish achieved their 60th career wins, Jake Nelson, Lukas Paulson, Kevin Andres and Logan Jurek achieved their 75th career wins, and Jake Nelson, Logan Jurek, Kylen Rish and Brayden Weber achieved their 25th career pins.
Highlights of the season were recognized.
The team emerged as Section 6AA Team Tournament second place winners, and 10 wrestlers placed in the Section 6AA Individual Tournament. Ethan Anderson (113), Jake Nelson (126), and Lukas Paulson (132) placed first, Brayden Weber (220) placed second, Logan Jurek (145), Caden Dewall (160), Mason Doucette (120) and Kylen Rish (152) placed third, and Lincoln Carlson (182) and Reid Kraus (170) placed fifth.
State participants Jake Nelson and Brayden Weber emerged All-State winners. Ethan Anderson and Lukas Paulson also won the right to attend state but didn’t place.
All-conference winners included Ethan Anderson, Jake Nelson, Logan Jurek, Brayden Weber, Mason Doucette, Lukas Paulson and Caden Dewall. Kylen Rish received an all-conference honorable mention.
The team received second in the Granite Ridge Team Conference Record with 4-1, and the Academic State Gold Award with an overall team GPA of 3.61.
“Now that the season is over you can tell there are already guys working for next year,” said Aho. “That makes it really exciting to see what next season will be.”
