The Becker Bulldogs varsity wrestling team brought home six place winners to earn 114 points and take 8th place out of a 27 field of teams at the Rogers “Matness” tournament last weekend. Short a couple of their starters they still fought hard and had a good showing.
Blaine took home the trophy with 224.5 points, followed by Princeton with 185 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa with 175.
Juniors Caden Dewall (170) (18-1) and Brayden Weber (220) (15-2) advanced to the semi-finals, with Dewall earning the championship in his weight class and Weber second place in his.
“Caden had a great tournament beating down two ranked opponents to claim 1st place,” said Head Coach Matt Aho. “I felt it was a good tournament for us, and we were able to see a variety of opponents and talents. This was a good tournament to see where our wrestlers fit in with other teams around the state.”
Kylen Rish (160) (12-6) earned 4th place, Adam Jurek (152) (13-4) earned 5th place and Ethan Anderson (132) (16-4) and Reid Kraus (182) (13-6) both placed 6th.
Ethan Duncombe (120) and Drew May (106) each won three matches and were short one of earned a place.
The JV wrestlers fought their way into 2nd place in the tournament. Nine placed with five of them taking 1st; Kaden Nicolas, Ryan Nelson, Isaac Regel, Kevoun Drehmel and Tyson Ricker.
The Bulldogs wrestlers traveled to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa High School to compete on Friday, which will be covered in next week’s edition of the Citizen-Tribune.
