Wrestlers 6 0 In Conference; 17 1 Overall

The Becker Bulldogs wrestling team continued on their winning path during the past week, bringing their standings to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

The team traveled to South St. Paul last Saturday, where they fought hard, taking second place behind No. 3AAA ranked Stillwater.

The Bulldogs had a great tournament performance with 11 place winners and 201 points, taking second place behind No. 3AAA ranked Stillwater with 292.5 points.

Seven Bulldogs made it to the finals, with three championships earned by Jake Nelson (132) (17-2), Caden Dewall (170) (28-1), and Brayden Weber (220) (23-2). 

Four 2nd places were earned by Ethan Anderson (126) (25-6), Lukas Paulson (138) (22-3), Reid Kraus (182) (21-9) and Bryce Kuschel (195) (8-5). Adam Jurek (145) (22-7) took 4th place, Joe Goth (160) (3-3) took 5th, Josh Stangler (152) (8-9) earned 7th, and Isaac Regal (152) took 8th place. 

We’ve been doing great so far this season,” said Head Coach Matt Aho. “We placed 2nd as a team overall in the tournament that had 15 teams.”

Tuesday saw the Bulldog wrestlers at Little Falls High School, where they overcame both their opponents by fairly wide margins; 42 – 29 against Brainerd, and 51 – 28 against Little Falls.

Six Bulldogs went 2-0 at the meet; Ethan Anderson (both falls), Lukas Paulson (a fall and a decision), Adam Jurek (a decision and a fall), Kylen Rish (forfeit and a fall), Reid Kraus (a fall and a decision), and Dylan Kolby (a forfeit and a fall).

The Freshmen Region 7 State Qualifier was held at Milaca High School last Saturday, where the Bulldogs earned 2nd place with 143 points and seven place winners, including four state qualifiers. Kadin Nicolas (88) and Tyson Richer (160 ) both earned championships, and Ethan Duncombe (113) and Dylan Kolby (285) both took 2nd place. Dylan Weber (170) took 3rd, and Nolan Muellner (94) and Drew May (100) both earned 5th place.

Friday the Bulldogs competed against Cambridge-Isanti, and on Tuesday, they’ll head to Rocori High School. Both meets will be covered in next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
