Last Friday, the Bulldogs wrestling team traveled to Glencoe-Silver Lake High School to compete in an eight team dual tournament. Along with the Bulldogs, schools participating were Annandale-Maple Lake, Eden Prairie, Glencoe-Silver Lake-Lester Prairie, Norwood-Young America, Paynesville, Red River Valley and Tri-City United.
The BBs came on strong in all three rounds of the tournament, winning their first round against Norwood-Young America (NYA) 61-18 and their second round against Annandale-Maple Lake (ANML) 42-25. Tri-City United (TCU) barely edged Becker out in the fight for first place, defeating them by one point for a final score of 31-30 and putting the Bulldogs in second place.
Kaden Rish, 106 lbs., won his first match with a fall (6-0) at 4:18, then fought hard but lost the next two by decisions (0-3), (0-3).
In the 113 lbs. class, Ethan Duncombe lost his match against ANML with a decision (0-3); the matches against NYA and TCU were lost by forfeit.
Wrestling well, Ethan Anderson, 120 lbs., took down his first two opponents with falls (6-0), (6-0), but ended up losing to TCU in a decision (0-4).
Mason Doucette, 126 lbs., defeated his first opponent with a fall at 3:30 (6-0) but ended up losing his next two matches, ANML with a fall (0-6) and TCU in a decision (0-3).
In the 132 lbs. class, Jake Nelson competed and won against his opponents from NYA (6-0) and TCU (6-0), and Tyson Ricker won against ANML in a forfeit.
Three Bulldogs wrestled in the 138 lbs. class; Adam Jurek beat his NYA opponent in a decision (3-0), Jake Nelson defeated ANML with a fall (6-0), and Lukas Paulson won against TCU in a decision (4-0).
In the 145 lbs. class, Paulson again beat his opponent, this time NYA, with a fall at :41 (6-0). ANML was lost through forfeit, and Kevin Andres won in a decision against TCU (4-0).
Andres came back again at 152 lbs., winning the first two weight class matches in decisions (4-0), (3-0). Logan Jurek took over the class against TCU, beating his opponent in a decision (3-0).
Logan Jurek started the tournament at 160 lbs., winning his first round through forfeit (6-0) and losing to ANML in a decision (0-4).
Kylen Risk competed in the third round 160 lbs. class against TCU, winning with a fall at :55. (6-0). He competed at 170 lbs. in the first two rounds of the tournament, winning both with falls (6-0), (6-0).
Caden Dewall took over the third round 170 lbs. class against TCU, winning (4-0) in a decision.
In the round against ANML he competed at 182 lbs., winning with a fall at 2:41 (6-0).
Kole Spiczka, 182 lbs., competed well, but was unable to defeat his two opponents, losing both to falls (0-6), (0-6).
The 195 lbs. class first round was lost to forfeit. In the next two rounds Nicholas Goth competed strongly but was unable to defeat his opponents, losing both to decisions (0-3), (0-3).
Competing at 220 lbs., Goth was able to take down his NYA opponent with a fall (6-0). Brayden Weber took over for the next two rounds, winning both through decisions (3-0), (3-0).
Weber also won his 285 lbs. class with a fall again NYA (6-0). Kolbe Braun fought hard in the same class, but lost to ANML and TCU in falls.
The wrestling team next competed on their home turf Dec. 21 against Buffalo, Moorhead and United South Central, which will be reported on in next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
Their next match is an invitational at Rogers High School on Dec. 28.
