Woelfel Wins Section 5 A Diving Championship

The Becker Bulldogs Swim & Dive team competed at sections last week with 27 athletes who had qualified for the meet this year, coming home with two securing their spots in the state meet, Sarah Woelfel and Lauren Woelfel.

The swimmers started out the weekend meet Thursday night with prelim events. The Bulldogs swam many personal best times and many of the girls dropped multiple seconds in their events.

In the 2000 free Meghan Swanson dropped 4.5 seconds, Tia Schapp 8 seconds and Neveah Baune dropped 4.5. Lucy Pink dropped 3 seconds and Christina Zheng dropped 4.5 seconds in the 200 IM. 

Hailey Eriksson, Avary Maunu and Kadance Cox each dropped just under .5 seconds in the 50 free. Delaney Varney dropped 2.5 seconds, just missing finals by less than half a second in the 100 butterfly, and Ryann Pitts dropped 5.5 seconds.

In the 100 free Kadance Cox dropped 2.5 seconds and Avary Maunu dropped 1. Sophie Diaz Dropped 11.5 seconds and Nadine Super 1.5 in the 500 free. Meghan Swanson dropped 2 seconds, Arleigh Pudlick dropped 1.5 and Alana Berger 1 during the 100 backstroke.

Meghan Swanson dropped 2 seconds, Arleigh Pudlick dropped 1.5 and Alana Berger dropped 1 second in the 100 backstroke. The 100 breaststroke saw Avery Tamm dropping 5.5 seconds, just missing the finals cut, Annika Howe dropped 4.5 seconds and Lucy Pink dropped 2.5.

All three of the Bulldogs’ relay teams made it to the podium, with Arleigh Pudlick, Avery Tamm, Delaney Varney and Kadance Cox taking 8th place in the 200 medley relay.

In the 200 free relay Tia Schaap, Avary Maunu, Kadance Cox and Hailey Ericsson also took 8th place and dropped another 1.5 seconds off their time. Placing 7th in the 400 free relay was the team of Tia Schapp, Rainna Friedman, Avary Maunu and Hailey Ericsson, who dropped another 2.5 seconds, bringing them to 7th place. 

Diving prelims took place place Friday night, with Keeley Holm, Sarah Woelfel, Lauren Woelfel and Bella Kushel making it to the top 16 and competing in the finals.

Saturday Delaney Varney placed 10th in the 100 butterfly, dropping yet another .5 second. The divers also competed well. Holm just missed the podium, placing 10th, Lauren Woelfel and Sarah Woelfel secured themselves a spot at state by placing 3rd and 1st respectively.
