Proudly representing the Becker Bulldogs Dive Team, Sarah Woelfel and Lauren Woelfel competed at the State Swimming & Diving Tournament Nov. 14 – 16 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, where both made it through to the semi-finals.
Both athletes secured a spot at state the week prior after Sarah Woelfel won the Section 5A diving championship and Lauren Woelfel placed 3rd.
Competition began Nov. 14, where the girls performed their first five dives. Both girls made it through the first round of cuts in 18th and 19th place, advancing on to the semi-final round.
The athletes performed their next three dives in the semi-final round, hoping for scores that would get them to the final round on Saturday. At the conclusion of the semi-finals the field was cut down to the top 16 divers, with Sarah Woelfel making the cut and moving on to finals.
Lauren Woelfel also performed her dives well and finished in 19th place, just 14 points from making the final cut.
Saturday, Sarah Woelfel was pumped up and ready to perform her final three dives. Executing them in top form, she finished 16th.
“Both of the girls did a fantastic job representing Becker at the meet with their performances,” said Coach Tina Tamm. “They’re young and we look forward to more trips to the state meet with these two.”
