Volleyball Team Hitting Their Stride, Win 3 In A Row

The Becker Bulldog girls volleyball team had a great week, winning three times to improve to 9-10.

Mora Invitational
Saturday, the Bulldogs traveled north to participate in the Mora Invitational and went 1-2.

In their first match, they faced off against Carlton and lost in two sets, 25-15, 25-12. They followed that up with their sixth straight loss to Greenway in three sets, 25-18, 25-17, 15-10.

They finally got off the losing side of things with a big win over Hinckley-Finlayson, 25-9, 25-22.

Becker 3, Little Falls 0
The Bulldog win streak continued Tuesday with a big win over Little Falls on the road, three sets to none.

After a tough week last week and two losses over the weekend, the Bulldogs entered the court Tuesday determined to fight hard for a win under Head Coach Greg Lynch.

With the help of an energetic defense — led by libero Bria Amundson and defensive specialists Leah Andersen and Bailee Thorson  — Lynch’s girls were determined not to let a ball touch the floor on the Bulldog side of the court. Becker's hitters crashed through the Little Falls blockers for kill-after-kill.

Junior outside hitter Jessica Gruber had an especially good night with 14 kills over three sets.

Becker 3, Mora 1
The Bulldogs continued their successful week with win over Mora Thursday on the road, three sets to one.

Becker traveled to Mora hungry for a rematch after a tough at-home loss to Mora in September by a score of two sets to three.  And Becker's appetite for a win was apparent on the court from the first touch of the ball, as the Bulldogs worked over and around and through a tough Mora defense that was determined to dig every ball that came over the net.

Mora's scrappy play wasn't enough, though, to shut down Becker's hitters, who put down ball-after-ball.  Becker dominated with the assistance of junior setters Sydney Bordson and Abbie Maruska —who gave hitters consistent hitting options with dozens of clean and accurate sets. Gruber again had a big night with 17 kills over the four sets.
