The Becker girls gymnastics team competed in their final Granite Ridge Conference meet at Maple Lake last Saturday. JV and varsity squads each took home first place honors.
Varsity
With the conference team title this season, the Bulldogs will leave the Granite Ridge Conference as eight-time GRC champions and the only school to win the title since the conference was formed.
Becker finished with 137.65 points while host Maple Lake took second (133.15) and RPHF took third (129.75). HLWWHT took fourth (122.95), Little Falls fifth (122.175) and Paynesville (118).
Varsity Vault
The gymnasts started on vault and had some of their best vaults of the year.
“The ladies are gaining more confidence in their landings every meet,” said Head Coach Kayla Kalinowski.
Riley Norberg took second with a 9.15, Lauren Woelfel took third with a 9.0 and Sarah Woelfel took fifth with an 8.85.
Varsity Bars
Bars continues to be an up-and-down event for the Bulldogs. Norberg had the Bulldogs’ highest score with an 8.1, closely followed by Emi Quill and Sarah Woelfel.
Varsity Beam
Katie Wilke hit her best set of the season to win the conference title on beam with a 9.15. Lauren Woelfel hit a nice set with a few missed connections to still finish third with an 8.75 and Norberg was close behind in fourth with an 8.575 (counting a fall).
Varsity Floor
Sarah Woelfel performed a beautiful routine to tie for the conference title with a 9.1. Norberg and Wilke tied for fourth with 8.75’s and Quill finished sixth with an 8.65, even counting a fall.
Varsity All-Around
Norberg finished second in the conference all-around while Wilke finished fifth.
Junior Varsity
Becker’s JV squad took home first place with a 126.4 score. Maple Lake took second with a 112.25 and RPHF third with 108.45. Little Falls took fourth (106.35), Paynesville fifth (98.2) and HLWWHT sixth (95.35).
JV Vault
Becker went 1-2-3 with Amelia Kirchner first, followed by Quill and Fallon Peterson.
JV Bars
Theresa Johnson won the event with a 7.5, followed by Faith Madsen in second and Kirchner in third.
JV Beam
Madsen won beam with an 8.2, closely followed by Sarah Woelfel with an 8.1 for second and Johnson took fifth with a 7.75.
JV Floor
Peterson won JV floor with an outstanding 8.5, followed by Lauren Woelfel in second with a 7.9 and Tessa Maruska and Johnson tied for third with 7.6’s.
The following gymnasts were named to the 2019 Granite Ridge All-Conference Team at the conclusion of the meet: Quill, Wilke, Sarah Woelfel, Norberg and Lauren Woelfel while Amelia Kirchner was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.
