Two ex-Bulldog student-athletes won scholarships given in the memory of Gordon (Jerry) Lindbom of Becker.
Samantha Fluck and Brett Watercott submitted applications to receive the GEL $500 scholarships and they were presented to the young adults by Anita Lindbom, in honor of her late husband.
These scholarships are available to all college students who have completed their freshman year and are participating in college sanctioned sports. They must also be graduates of Becker High School.
The letters of application from the two students are as follows:
Samantha Fluck — Volleyball
“I am entering my senior year of my undergraduate degree in athletic training at Dakota Wesleyan University. I struggled through a major setback my freshman and my whole sophomore year (injuries). I was able to go through months and months of rehab and was able to come back strong my junior year. I am now super excited to be going into my senior year healthy and ready to go!”
Fluck used a medical redshirt in 2013 and returned to the court in 2014, playing 100 sets.
Sammie says she has put in a lot of work in the past two summers to not only improve herself but the Becker varsity girls as well.
“My future goals include applying to the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse in the physical therapy program,” she says. “I want to become a physical therapist for special needs children. I can’t wait to be able to enter the world and change as many lives as possible.”
Fluck is the daughter of Lonnie and Katey Fluck
Brett Watercott — Football
“I will be a junior this fall at St. John’s University in Collegeville and am pursuing a degree in finance accounting,” said Watercott. “I am a receiver on the St. John’s football team. We are currently ranked in the top 10 in the nation for the 2015 season.”
“Go Johnnies!”
“Thank you for your consideration for this scholarship,” Watercott concluded.
Brett is the son of Doug and Christina Watercott of Becker. He transferred from Division II Augustana (S.D.)
