Tungland/ Brown Ousted At State Thursday

Becker’s Dawson Brown and Eric Tungland lost their first two tennis matches in the Class AA state tournament Thursday and ended their run for a state championship in doubles competition.

Brown and Tungland took on Benjamin Sajevic and Joseph Shubert of Woodbury in the first match of the tournament Thursday morning at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota. Sajevic and Shubert advanced with a 6-1, 6-4 win over the Becker boys.
 
Sajevic and Shubert went on to lose to Charlie Adkins and Rory Calabria of Maple Grove in the second round. The championship match was slated to play Friday at 11:30 a.m.
 
In the consolation match, Brown and Tungland took on Josh Anderson and Jason Smyth of Mahtomedi and lost 6-4, 3-6, (10-5) to close out their season. Anderson and Smyth took home the consolation championship by beating Matt Dorn and Brock Dillon of Chanhassen and teammates Teddy Bowe/Derek Johnson of Mahtomedi in the final two matches.
