Congratulations goes out to Becker student Erik Tungland for being selected as one of this week’s semi-finalists for Aspire Athlete of the Week. Help is needed for Erik to reach the finals so go to the Aspire website and cast your votes (athlete.aspirebeverages.com).
Tungland is one of five semi-finalists from across the state of Minnesota vying for the title of Aspire Athlete of the Week. He is playing tennis this spring for the Becker Bulldogs.
Senior Erik Tungland is 13-5 on the season and is looking to make his second trip to the state tennis tournament in doubles.
Captain and all-conference selection for soccer, basketball and tennis, Erik is a true leader on the court but also off the court. He performs extremely well in the classroom (3.97 GPA), is head of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and plans to go to the University of Minnesota in the fall.
Erik also participated in a leadership development group this past winter and is seen as an excellent role model for younger players and community members.
Coach Hokan Bengtson says, “Erik is a young man of very high character. I want my boys to be around him and watch how he lives. To me, that’s the highest compliment a coach can give an athlete. He’s truly a three-dimensional athlete, caring about the sport, his opponent and representing his school with honor and class.”
