Tennis Team’s Goal Is To Win Granite Ridge

The Becker girls tennis team has had a strong kick-off and are looking to an even stronger season.

The Becker girls tennis team is lead by Head Coach Nathan Bucher and is joined by Assistant Coach Alyssa Stevens, who has past experience coaching at other schools.

Bucher states she is a great edition to the team, is relatable, and brings great experiences.

Team Captains this year are Payton Bernstrom, 12th, Taylor Pawlicki, 12th, and Blair Pappenfus, 12th.  All are returning for their second year as captains on varsity and have been on varsity for three years.

Joining them are 45 other girls from grades 7-12th grade, who are ready to play and are excited to return for this year.  The team has grown a lot from last year and have been playing hard off season.  According to

Coach Bucher, he can really see a difference in their skill and that he feels blessed to be their coach.

As for their junior high team, the coaches are actually former graduates of Becker High School and the tennis program.  As Coach Bucher says,” They have really stepped up into the role to continue our tradition of having a quality program.”

The tennis team’s goal this year is to win the Granite Ridge Conference.  In the past, they have battled Foley and Pine City for top honors and this year they have a very good shot of leaving as champions!
They are also excited for their section tournament against Saint Cloud Tech for a chance at state.

“Tech’s team is a very strong team from top to bottom,” says Coach Bucher,” but we hope that we can make some dents in their line-up if we play our best.”

The Becker girls tennis team looks like they are going to have an eventful year!
