Tennis Team Wins 2 Of 3 Matches

The Becker boys tennis team got their spring season off to a heady start  this week in their invitational tournament, beating two of three teams.

The Bulldogs started with a 4-1 victory over Buffalo.

Coach Hokan Bengtson was impressed with what he saw out of his charges against the Bison.

“Our first match was a great one,” he said. “We were in control at No. 1 Doubles and played really well. The experience of Brady and Caleb showed as they executed their game plan really well.

“The other four spots were al really closely-contested. We won tiebreakers at three of of the four spots, which really impressed me. Our younger players came through in cluch moments to secure the team win. Many of our players  were playing their first varsity match of their careers and handled it with poise.”

In Round 2, the Bulldogs faced a strong Brainerd team, losing 5-0.

“Brainerd is really a solid team. They are one of the favorites to win the sub-section 8AA this year,” he said. “They have depth and experience. Jacob and Brady had a great match at No. 1 doubles, but came up just short.”

Becker got on track in their third match, beating Delano, 4-1.

“They (Delano) are a good matchup for us and young group of players,” he said. “Our No. 2 doubles team of Jordan Ulbrich and Aidan Persons played an excellent match and came out with a key win to seal the match.”
