The Becker boys tennis team improved to 9-1 on the season with an easy, 7-0 win over the Aitkin Gobblers Thursday on Becker’s home court.
“Aitkin is a young team that has no seniors,” said Becker Head Coach Hokan Bengtson. “They are one of the top teams in the Granite Ridge Conference. We mixed our line-up a bit today, looking at some new partners in doubles and having some different guys play singles as well. I was impressed with the focus or our guys today. We are getting better and continuing to improve on our footwork and finishing shots.”
Dawson Brown, playing at #1 singles, easily dispatched Bryce Haugly by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Josiah Borst had a battle with Josh Carlberg at #2 singles, but prevailed with 6-3, 6-3 wins.
Jackson Lefebvre took care of business against Brett Harris at #3 singles with 6-1, 6-0 scores and Josh Duke did the same at #4 singles against Jakob Arnold, 6-1, 6-0.
At #1 doubles, Austin Hill and Brandon Roemer battled but overcame Franklin Real and Jacob Hagestuen, 6-4, 6-2. At #2 doubles, Tyler Lindquist and C.J. Howard swamped Nathan Davies and Nathan Hagestuen, 6-0. 6-4. Finally, at #3 doubles, Joe Gudim and Andrew Schneider made it a complete sweep for Becker as they beat Jaren Johnson and David Curtiss, 6-4, 6-1.
Friday, the Bulldogs took on Duluth East at home (full report on match in next week’s Citizen).
“They are a quality opponent who we had a great match with us last year,” said Bengtson. “They didn’t lose much to graduation so it will be a battle.”
Saturday, Becker hosts Buffalo and Benilde-St. Margarets in a three-team tournament, then hosts Minneapolis Southwest Tuesday, then heads to St. Cloud to take on Cathedral Thursday, then to Burnsville Friday to take on the Blaze.
