Tennis Team Improves To 6 3 With Two Wins

The Becker Bulldog boys tennis team hosted an invitational last Saturday and played teams from Buffalo, Elk River and Hibbing.

The Bulldogs got wins at #2 and #4 singles but lost the match to the BlueJackets by three.
 
#1 singles: Branden Roemer (BB) lost to Jack Kennedy (HB), 6-4, 2-6, 2-6; #2 singles: Jacob Lukkarila (BB) beat Carter Anderson (HB), 6-1, 6-1; #3 singles: Andrew Schneider (BB) lost to Ryan Osborne (HB), 3-6, 6-1, 2-6; #4 singles: Daniel Garcia (BB) beat Joe Dwyer (HB, 6-0, 6-0.
 
#1 doubles: CJ Howard and Brady Gruenhagen (BB) lost to Jake Jolowski and Reece Blagoue (HB), 0-6, 3-6; #2 doubles: Caleb Quernemoen and Jordan Bonsante (BB) lost to Michael Sullivan and Phil Rebrovich (HB), 6-2, 4-6, 4-6; #3 doubles: Basil Ricker and Jordan Ulbrich (BB) lost to Paxton Kristen and Mark Borland (HB), 0-6, 4-6.

In a similar match to Hibbing, the Bulldogs had wins at #2 and #3 singles and lost the match by three.

#1 doubles: Howard and Gruenhagen (BB) lost to Joe O’Connell and Joey Eberle (ER), 2-6, 2-6; #2 doubles: Quernemoen and Bonsante (BB) lost to Taiyo Larson and Connor Bizal (ER), 2-6, 3-6; #3 doubles: Ricker and Ulbrich (BB) lost to Matthew Gearou and Isaac Hultberg (ER), 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-10.

Becker’s only loss was at #4 singles.

#1 doubles: Howard and Bonsante (BB) beat Jack Stevens and Grant Wykle (BB), 6-1, 6-3; #2 doubles: Quernemoen and Gruenhagen (BB) beat Josh Skarin and Saami Larson (BB), 6-2, 6-2; #3 doubles: Ricker and Ulbrich (BB) beat Luke Dahl and Jack Oistad (BB), 6-3, 6-2.
 
“Our kids played better and better as the day went on,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson.  “Both Hibbing and Elk River are perennial powers in Minnesota tennis and we played really well versus both teams.  Then, in the third match of the day, we beat a good Buffalo team, 6-1.”
 
Becker 7, Cathedral 0
Tuesday, Becker traveled to Apollo High School to take on St. Cloud Cathedral in a GRC matchup. The Bulldogs dominated and came home with a sweep over the Crusaders.

#1 doubles: Howard and Tyler Lindquist (BB) beat Losha Schreifels and Ryan Ferris (SC), 6-1, 6-0; #2 doubles: Quernemoen and Johnny Crocker (BB) beat Bradley Reuter and  Collin Mitchell (SC), 6-0, 6-0; #3 doubles: Aidan Persons and Bonsante (BB) beat Keagan Kearney and Robbie Jandik (SC), 6-3, 6-3.
 
Becker improved to 6-3 on the season.
 
Up Next
The boys had a match scheduled for Monday of this week against Mound- Westonka, but because of weather, the match was postponed to May 15.
 
The Bulldogs play Thursday at home against Mora.
