Tennis Team Beats Foley, Moves To 3 0 In Conference

The Becker boys tennis team traveled to Foley to take on the Falcons Thursday on a day where weather put the matches in jeopardy. Fortunately, Foley has an indoor facility to accommodate tennis, so the meet was moved indoors.

Becker 6, Foley 1
The Bulldogs swept all the singles matches and had just one hiccup at #2 doubles, as they soundly defeated Foley in a GRC matchup.

“We played really well today,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson. “I was proud of the focus and concentration playing indoors in Foley.”

Bengtson said since Foley has perennially been one of the top teams in the conference, he wanted to be sure his guys were determined to play well and finish points no matter what the surface was like or the weather conditions.

The boys responded.

Jacob Lukkarila had a tough match against Foley’s Logan Scott, but Lukkarila prevailed in two sets with 6-3, 6-4 wins at #1 singles.

Branden Roemer played at #2 singles and had no problem beating eighth-grader Tanner Tschumper, 6-0, 6-0.

Daniel Garcia moved up to play at #3 singles and struggled in his first match with Peyton Baron, but beat him 7-5 and then trounced him in the second set by a score of 6-0.
Andrew Schneider had very little trouble with Weston Watercott, beating him in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

At #1 doubles, the Becker duo of CJ Howard and Tyler Lindquist dispatched of Jordan Ziwicki and Tanner Funk in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Caleb Quernemoen and Johnny Crocker battled with Foley’s Jacob Hageman and Jamie Gothman, but lost in straight sets, 3-6, 507.

Jordan Bonsante and Brady Gruenhagen gave the Bulldogs their sixth win when they beat George Brenny and Caleb Dahlstrom at #3 doubles by scores of 6-3, 6-2.

The Bulldogs are now 3-0 on the conference and 11-3 overall.
