The Becker Bulldog swim and dive teams competed twice in the past week, hosting Big Lake Aug. 6 and hosting Foley this Thursday.
Becker 95,
Big Lake 88
Tina Tamm’s girls started the season with a big win over rival Big Lake Aug. 6.
“It was a very close meet throughout the whole night,” said Tamm. “The win came down to the last relay of the night.”
Going into that final event, Tamm knew her team needed to get at least second place in order to win the meet. Her 400M freestyle relay team consisting of Nev Baune, Alana Berger, Kadance Cox and Morgan Schrader pulled of the second place finish to clinch the win.
The Bulldog divers also had a great night, with Emi Quill breaking her own varsity and pool records with a score of 251.15 (six points better than her old record). Sarah Woelfel took second place with a score of 206.65 (almost 30 points higher than the third place diver).
Tamm had six girls qualify for the section meet: 1). Mallory Howe in the 200 IM and 100M butterfly; 2). Hailey Eriksson in the 50M and 100M freestyle; 3). Kyla Henkemeyer in the 50M freestyle; 4). Emi Quill, 5). Sarah Woelfel and 6). Lauren Woelfel in diving.
“Every girl who competed tonight had a role in this win,” said Tamm. “People think that swimming and diving is an individual sport, but it takes every girl in every event to work together to get the points to win.”
“The energy in the pool was high and the girls were ready to compete, she said. “It’s a great start to the season!”
Becker Travels To
Holdingford
The Bulldogs traveled to Holdingford Tuesday and lost their first meet of the season.
“There were a lot of great races at Holdingford but we just couldn't string together enough points to get the win,” said Tamm.
Coach Tamm said it's tough in a four-lane pool because there are less points to work with.
“We have the depth to get the fourth through sixth place points but those are not available in a four-lane pool.”
Becker hosts Foley
The girls took on the Foley Falcons at home Thursday, but lost their second straight match.
Diver Emi Quill broke her own record once again with a score of 252.45. This surpasses the record she previously set last week versus Big Lake.
“It's always hard to go against Foley,” said Tamm. “They are a tough team with a lot a very good swimmers.”
Mallory Howe (200 IM) and Quill (diving) were Becker’s two first place winners in the meet. Hailey Eriksson (100M freestyle) and Howe (100M butterfly) came in very close second place in their races.
“Our girls are swimming good races,” Tamm said. “They are posting times that they were at at the end of last season, which shows improvement already. They are only going to get better.”
