Swim/Dive Team Still Looking For First Win

The Becker Bulldog swim and dive team’s season start hasn’t produced a win yet, but their first meet  against Holdingford Tuesday did produce a number of great swims by Head Coach Tina Tamm’s girls.

Tamm had a few girls qualify for sections in their first meet of the season including: Melody Swanson in the 200IM and 100M butterfly; Jalissa Johnson in the 50M and 500M freestyle; Hailey Eriksson in the 50M and 10M0 freestyle; Emi Quill and Sarah Woelfel in diving; Emily Lipinski in the 100M butterfly; Makenna Thelen in the 100M backstroke and Avery Tamm in the 100M breaststroke.

“There were a lot of really good races at the meet,” said Tamm. “We just came up short on the finishes.”

Tamm says she will work on the finishes and other aspects of swimming and diving in the days to come.

“We got out the ‘first meet jitters’ and are ready to work hard for the next competitions,” she said.

Foley 104, Becker 74
Jess Milstroh won the 200 individual medley (2:22.87) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.56) and swam a leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:47.43) for host Foley Thursday night.

Also on the relay were Kelsey Starry, Courtney Brambrink and Landrie Walz. Bambrink also won the 100 freestyle (59.68) for the Falcons (1-0 Granite Ridge, 1-2 overall).

“Foley is a tough team with a lot of really great swimmers,” said Coach Tamm.  “It's always tough to go against them.  They are our toughest competition all season.”

Tamm said she switched up the girls events, giving them a chance to swim different things and because of that, they had a couple more section qualifying times: Melody Swanson in the 200M and 500M freestyle and Jalissa Jonson in the 100M freestyle.

Becker’s JV girls are improving everyday and Tamm says several swimmers will most likely be on that section list very soon.

“Many girls are mere seconds or less away from qualifying after only two meets,” she said.  “I am excited to see how much improvement they will continue to gain.”
