The Becker boys golf team competed in the Section 8AAA Tournament at Rich Springs Golf Club in Cold Spring Wednesday. The event was scheduled for Tuesday, but after three holes of play, the athletes were pulled off the course due to lightning.
Three hours later, the tournament director cancelled the day’s event and rescheduled it for the following day.
Alex Stanz played a solid round, carding a 74 which put him in third place after round one. Alexandria’s Ben Dirck is the leader with a 72 and Brainerd’s Gavin Metz is second with a 73.
Zach Stanz had two mistakes that led his 78 and placing him in a tie for 14th. Austin Seavert played 16 holes of great golf, but a quad and double bogey led to an 82 (30th place).
The rest of the team struggled and ended up shooting 327, not good enough to qualify for the second day as a team. Lucas Dertinger had a 93, Gavin Murphy a 98 and Cole Benson a 99.
Alexandria had a top team total of 300, followed by Brainerd (302), Moorhead (310), Sartell-St. Stephens (315), Buffalo (318), St. Cloud Tech (320), Monticello (323), Becker (327), Willmar (336), Bemidji (339) and St. Cloud Apollo/Sauk Rapids-Rice (676).
Alex Stanz, Seavert and Zach Stanz will play Monday for the second day of the tournament at Rich Springs.
