SECOND BASEMAN ALLISON CIESLAK had a monster day at last Friday’s doubleheader as she went 6-for-11 at the plate with six runs scored and seven RBIs in the two decisive wins. She also had a two home run night against Zimmerman Thursday including a grand slam.
THE GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM spent some of their practice time this week collecting food items to be donated to the local food shelf. They collected over 645 items.

Softball Team Stays Undefeated, Cieslak On A Tear

The Becker girls softball team won three more games this past week, improving to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference.

All three games were shutouts.
 
Bulldogs 19, Thunder 0
 
The game got off to a good start for the Bulldogs Thursday on the road when they scored eight runs in the top of the first inning to glide to victory.  
 
Marikate Wegeleben, Sam Lorette and Haley Harmon all had RBI singles in the inning and Allison Cieslak added a two-run home run.  
 
The Bulldogs were able to add five more runs in the third inning when Harmon doubled to lead off the inning and Cieslak drove in two more runs with a single.   In the top of the fifth inning, Becker put up another big number with six runs.  Hailey Fitzpatrick had an RBI triple and Cieslak capped her huge night with a grand slam, her sixth home run of the season.  
 
Harmon picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing two hits while walking three and striking out three.

Last Friday, the Becker girls softball team hosted Little Falls for a doubleheader.
 
In game one, Becker smashed the Flyers in a 10-0 victory in five innings.  
 
The Bulldogs got off to a great start, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning when  Lindsey Lorette connected on a big two-run single to lead the charge.  
 
Becker added another run in the second, two more in the fourth and a run in the fifth to close out the contest.   Freshman starting pitcher Brianna Corey improved to 3-0 on the season when she allowed just two hits and struck out three in the win.

Game two progressed similarly to the first game as the Bulldogs scored two in the first and four in the second to take a an early 6-0 lead.
 
Allison Cieslak accounted for three runs with a big home run in the top of the second inning.   Not letting up, the girls scored three more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 9-0.  
 
In the top of the sixth, things really fell apart for the Flyers as Becker scored 18 runs on a combination of 14 hits and four errors.  Cieslak added her second home run of the game in the sixth.  
 
Haley Harmon picked up the win on the mound, moving to 4-0 on the season.  She pitched all six innings and allowed two hits while striking out 11 batters.
 
The leading hitter on the night was Cieslak, who went 6-for-11, scoring six runs, and driving in seven.  She was named the StarTribune’s Prep Athlete of the Week for her tremendous efforts against Foley and Little Falls where she combined to score 12 runs, drive in 10, hit .647 and smack four doubles and three home runs.
 
Other Becker leaders were Erika Schwartz, who was 6-for-7 with five runs scored and four RBIs. Alexa Hanowski was 4-for-6, scoring three runs and knocking in five. Marikate Wegeleben finished her two games going 6-for-9.
 
The varsity and JV teams spent part of one of their practices collecting food for the Becker food shelf.  In all, they collected 645 items.
 
Becker hosts their annual eight-team Becker Invitational Saturday with games at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
