The Becker Bulldog girls softball team played one game this week, beating Milaca easily at home Tuesday night.

The game began with the Wolves getting a couple runners on base in the top of the first. The inning ended in dramatic form when centerfielder Kaylyn Wiehle threw out a runner at the plate to keep the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs wasted no time and put up three runs with big hits coming on a Brianna Corey double and a Payton Bernstrom single.
The Wolves again threatened to score in the their next at bat, but the inning ended with another outstanding play at the plate as Brinley Zoller threw out a Milaca runner from right field.
Becker added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Megan Hoppe led off with a double and Ellie Schwartz followed with a single. Two groundouts by the next two batters each scored a run to make the score 5-0.
After a scoreless third, the home team exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning with Bernstrom adding another RBI single. The big blow came on a three-run double off the bat of Haley Benda.
The Wolves threatened again when they put two runners on in the fifth, but they were stranded and the game ended due to the run rule.
Becker’s Brianna Corey got the win, pitching the first three innings. Corrie Weise came in to close things out in the final two innings.

The Bulldogs traveled to play Elk River Friday and follow that up by going to the Zumbrota-Mazeppa tournament Saturday. A full report on all games this weekend will appear in next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
At the Zumbrota-Mazeppa tournament, Becker will take on defending state champion and #7-ranked Cougars, as well as other strong teams including Moose Lake/Willow River and Norwood-Young America.
The tough schedule continues Monday when Becker takes on defending state runner-up and #6-ranked Buffalo at home.
Becker is ranked #4 in class AAA.
Strike Out Cancer
Sandi Jundt, mother of ninth-grade softball player, Alex Jundt was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and the team has scheduled a Strike Out Cancer Awareness game May 11 in her honor.
The Bulldogs varsity, JV and C-Squad teams will play the Albany Huskies and the Bulldogs will be selling t-shirts for $15 to raise money for the cause. The event starts at 5 p.m.
The coaches and players encourage all to come out that day to support this softball family.
