Siegrist Leads Hornets to Win Over Wildcats

The Big Lake boys’ basketball team used an offensive explosion last Friday to take down Chisago Lakes, 118-95 on the road.

After leading by eight at halftime, the Hornets dominated the second half with 61 points to secure the win. The win gave Big Lake the season sweep over Chisago, with the other win coming just one week earlier.

Max Siegrist spearheaded the offensive attack with 31 points followed closely by Leroy Hamrin who scored 28 of his own. Owen Wilczek and Judd Layton each added 18 points. Lane Pettis had nine, Trevor Stukenholtz had six, and Precieux Sanguma had two.

Last Thursday, the team lost 87-51 to Spectrum in non-conference action. And on Tuesday the team dropped their final conference game of the season to Cambridge-Isanti 78-67. The Hornets end conference play with a record of 7-9 in the Mississippi 8.

This is the last week of the regular season for the Hornets, who will begin playoffs next Tuesday. On Thursday the team takes on West Lutheran and then battles Legacy Christian on Friday. Both games are at home. Seedings and pairings for next Tuesday’s Section 5-AAA quarterfinal matchups will come out on Saturday after the conclusion of the regular season.
