Last week, Randy Shaver of Kare 11 was invited to speak at the Becker Bulldog banquet held at Pebble Creek Golf Course. Five-star Minneapolis restaurant Fogo De Chao offered to serve their legendary food and players, coaches and family members got all dolled up to learn more about Tackle Cancer from the man who started it all.
Shaver was diagnosed with cancer in 1989 and five years later started Tackle Cancer, a program designed to raise money for cancer awareness and research.
Head Coach Dwight Lundeen, who calls Shaver a good friend, invited the news anchor to speak at the event to help educate the youth in learning to volunteer, fundraise and give their ultimate best to the support of a good cause.
The players sat at the round tables and each received a miniature pink football to commemorate the cause as well as a pair of pink sport socks to be worn at the game last week. Pink jerseys hung along the walls in the dining area and glossy programs were distributed to each table in the restaurant.
Shaver was given a game ball by the Bulldog players and thanked for his appearance and message. Representatives for Fogo De Chao were also given a “game ball” for their delicious food and generosity to Tackle Cancer week.
