The Becker boys basketball team closed out their season with a Section 5AAA playoff loss to Delano on the road Tuesday, 89-68.
Delano jumped out to a quick lead and held a six-point advantage at halftime. They increased that lead in the final 18 minutes, outscoring the Bulldogs by 15 to capture the win.
No. 2-seeded Delano was led by superstar Calvin Wishart, who tallied 46 points, six rebounds, eight assists and nine steals. Keegan O’Neill added 16 while Derek Techam added 15.
The #7-seeded Bulldogs got great scoring from Lukas Dertinger and Brandon Gustafson, who each scored 21 points. Becker had eight players make the scoresheet while the Tigers had six. However, it was all Wishart as he dominated the game from the get-go.
Wishart, a gifted guard who can score and see the floor, earned a scholarship to play basketball at Georgia Southern next year.
Becker finishes the season 11-14. Dertinger led the team all year in points, averaging 18.9 points a game. He also led the team in steals per game (1.3) and made three-pointers per game (5).
Gustafson was the team leader in rebounds, averaging 6.7 a game. Sam Ricker was the leader in assists with 2.6 per game and Cade Callahan led the Bulldogs in blocks per game with one.
The Bulldogs’ 11 wins came against Big Lake, Milaca (2x), Dassel-Cokato, Little Falls (2x), Albany, Foley (2x) and Mora (2x). Their losses came against Waconia, Princeton, Monticello, Cathedral (2x), Sauk Rapids-Rice, Albany, Willmar, Apollo, Zimmerman (2x), Rocori, Alexandria and Delano (2x).
