Schmidt In Top 15 At State, Track Team Celebrates

Hannah Schmidt placed eighth in high jump and 12th in pole vault last weekend as she participated in her first MSHSL state meet at Hamline University.

In Schmidt’s high jump event Friday morning, she cleared 5’2” and earned all-state honors for her achievement (top nine finish). That height tied her personal record also.

Saturday, the weather turned sour and the pole vault event was moved indoors. Schmidt didn’t let the issue bother her as she again tied a personal record of 10’ and earned the 12th place finish. Her regular season coach, Dustin Weege, was by her side during her competition as well as her dad, Paul Schmidt, the boys track team coach.

“ It is a special thing to be able to coach your own child and I know how proud and supportive of Hannah her family is,” said girls Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy. “Great job goes out to all.”
