SOPHOMORE HANNAH SCHMIDT vaulted herself to state by leaping 5’2” in the high jump Wednesday afternoon.

Schmidt Advances To State In High Jump  

Becker’s Hannah Schmidt qualified for the state track and field meet by winning the high jump championship for section 8AA .

Girls Track
Wednesday was prelim day for several running events and finals day for the 3200 run and several field events.
 
Schmidt’s first place finish in the high jump was a leap of 5' 2". That is a personal record for Schmidt and moves her up on Becker's girls track honor roll to tie with Maria Zimmerman in second. 
 
Today (Saturday) Schmidt will compete in the pole vault for a chance at going to state in that event as well.
 
Thirteen girls produced personal records plus two more had season bests.  
 
While no one qualified for finals Saturday, Maesyn Thiesen came close, placing 12th in the 400 with a PR of 63.47, which places her on Becker's honor roll. 
 
Renee Tripp also ran the 400 and got a PR of 65.70. 
 
Other PR performances came from Montanna Edling in the 100 hurdles (18.07) and 300 hurdles (51.94  placing her sixth on Becker's top ten honor roll), Aubree Lahr 100 hurdles (19.60) and 300 hurdles (51.94 seventh in Becker’s top 10 honor roll), Deedra Lawrence 300 hurdles (56.91).  
 
Haley Hubbard also did well in the 100 hurdles by three stepping the entire race.
 
All three of the girls’ 800 runners got PRs in their races.  Senior Madi Kealy cut two seconds off her previous best time for 2:34.91 to move up to seventh place on Becker's  top ten honor roll. Jada Rositas  PR’d with 2:44.18 and Mauren Thiesen PR’d with 2:49.0.
 
In the 200 meters, Schmidt earned a PR of 28.17, Shannon Sydow had a season best of 28.76 and Lexi Michels ran 29.02.
 
Long jumpers saw Morgan Youngdahl jumping 14'11", Haley Olsen 14'7" and Christina Kotten Pring at 12'9".
 
Becker goes to Thief River Falls today for the section finals, including all the relays and the shot put, triple jump and pole vault.
Schmidt will compete the high jump at state at Hamline next Friday.
 
Boys Track
The boys track team had many personal best performances but none of the boys  advanced to the finals.
 
Luke Lahr had a good day, finishing 10th in the two mile with a personal best time of 10:08.  That was 18 seconds faster than his previous best.  
 
Andrew Davalos also came up one hundredth of a second short of making finals, finishing with a 53.05 and placing 10th overall. Sydney Boros also ran a personal best 55.5 seconds in the 400.  Kreston Gammon finished his shot put career in 10th place in the section, just one place and a couple inches out of making the finals.
 
Other noteable performances were Adam Bauman running a personal best in the 800 at 2:10.08 and Olson Pancoast and Brett Parsons both ran personal best times in the 800.
 
Boys discus, triple jump and high jump will all take place along with the rest of the finals today.
