Robotics takes state title!

It’s another Minnesota State High School League state robotics championship for Becker’s varsity robotics team, FRC 4607 - The Coalition of Independent Students.  This victory marks Becker’s fourth overall state title and an impressive back-to-back championship streak, having previously won in 2013, 2022, 2024, and now 2025.

“We helped secure the state championship title after a nail-biting tie-breaker match against the alliance of Rochester, New London-Spicer, and Sauk Centre, with a final score of 241–221,” Coach Alex Jurek said.

Becker had one of the top performing robots at the event, named RIPTIDE, and it led to Becker being chosen to be part of the number two alliance along with partners Irondale and Pequot Lakes for the championship bracket.

Becker’s alliance quickly found itself in the finals, a best two-of-three matches format, and won the opening match.  After a close second match loss, it set up a tie-breaker match for the state title.

There, the Becker-led trio captured the championship hardware with the thrilling, 20 point victory.

After the victory, Jurek sang the praises of his seniors for their role over the past four years.

“These seniors have been instrumental in driving the team’s success, contributing to three state championships, four world championship appearances including a fourth place finish, and two impact awards during their high school careers,” Jurek said.  “Many of them joined as freshmen or sophomores, growing alongside the program and gaining invaluable experience in robotics engineering, strategy, and leadership.”

One of the biggest contributions of the group was their efforts in elevating the level of the robot itself.

Long known for efficient designs, the team added a great deal to its engineering processes and created championship-caliber robots to help lead a renaissance on the field.

“Their technical skills, leadership in critical matches, and mentorship of younger team members helped solidify the team’s reputation as a Minnesota powerhouse,” Jurek said.  “As they (seniors) move on to new challenges, their legacy remains a blueprint for future members of 4607 . . . proof that dedication, teamwork, and innovation lead to sustained success.”

In addition to the state title, the team also won the Engineering and Design Award sponsored by Dunwoody College.

“This is the fourth time the team won this award,” Jurek said.

Two seniors were recognized for their excellence in robotics by earning “All State” honors: Landon Jurek and Kaylee Waters.

With their fourth state title since the team was launched in 2013, Becker’s FRC robotics program has earned nationwide recognition as an elite program.  From their work establishing the largest high school robotics training program in the world, to their local mentorship and stewardship of the Central Minnesota Robotics Hub, the team, coaches and mentors have put Becker on the map as a robotics powerhouse.

Jurek credited the team with the hard work and sacrifices necessary to build a program, team and robot capable of earning this high level of praise.

“Their ability to learn, adapt, and excel year after year is a testament to the dedication of the students, mentors, and community supporters,” Jurek said.

With four state titles now secured, Team 4607 looks poised to continue its legacy of innovation and competition excellence in the years to come.  Congratulations to the Becker robotics team on its fourth state title!
