The Becker Big Lake varsity Eagles hockey team ended their season with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses after losing to River Lakes, 9-3, in the first round of Section 8AA play offs at Richmond Saturday.
Other teams in Section 8AA are Roseau, Moorhead, Brainerd, Bemidji, Buffalo, Monticello and St. Cloud Tech.
The JV team season record was 9-8.
Zack Vieau scored the Eagles’ first goal of the game against River Lakes after they opened the first period with two goals scored at 3:23 and 3:52. Vieau scored on a powerplay with assists from Milan Kent and Ethan Boutin.
Dana Slominski scored in the second period at 10:36 with an assist from Ben Gilchrist. Vieau scored three minutes later with an assist from Colin Downs, but it wasn’t enough and the Eagles went scoreless in the third period.
Nick Stalpes ended the season with the skater leader record of 35 points. Zack Vieau had 31 points and Tristan Gust and Jason Tonneslan had 24 points. Ethan Boutin and Elliot Darsow had 20 points each.
Goalie Ben Manzke was the goalie leader with .872% save record. Ethan Huber had .864% save record.
The Eagles finished in second place in the Two Rivers Conference with eight wins and two losses. They were 13-11 overall. Webster, Siren, Frederick, Luck and Grantsburg (WSFLG), were first with a conference record of 9-1 and 15-8 overall.
The Mora Mustangs took third place with 8-3. Legacy Christian Academy had a record of 7-4. Pine City-Rush City were at 3-8. Moose Lake Area had 3-9. St. Paul Highland Park had 0-11.
Stalpes took second place on the conference skater leaders list. WSFLG skater Alex Hopkins was first with 49 points. Vieau was seventh in the conference with 31 points.
Manzke was in fifth place among the conference goalies. Tanner Balk of Legacy Christian Academy was the goalie leader with .907% saves.
The Eagles hockey team will look very different in November as they bid farewell to 17 seniors on their team this year. The Eagles were coached by Doug Friedrichs, Scott Barta, Kevin Jeffers and Tim Houghton.
