The Clearwater River Cats and Clear Lake Lakers have had a busy couple of weeks with wins and losses for both; both teams also saw a high number of their players hit by balls during the last few games.
Clearwater River Cats
In a seven inning game against the Rogers Red Devils, the Clearwater River Cats were defeated 14-4.
River Cats Nick Proshek started on the mound where he threw two innings, giving up six hits, five runs, three walks, and recording two strikeouts. Up next was Ty Carper, who threw three and a third innings, giving up eight hits, nine runs, four walks, and recording three strikeouts.
Richard Thompson threw the final one and two thirds innings, giving up three hits, one walk, and recording two strikeouts.
The River Cats offense was led by Thompson, who went 2 for 4 with a home run for two RBIs; he also stole a base. Callen Henkemeyer went 1 for 4 with a double for two RBIs, and Carper went 2 for 4 and scoring a run.
Jack Grell went 1 for 3, earning a walk and scoring two runs. Jake Carper went 1 for 3, and Adam Smith and Al Smith both went 1 for 2. Izzy Carper earned a walk, and Zach Schmidt and Andy Johnson were both hit by pitches.
In a close exhibition game against the Pearl Lake Lakers, the Clearwater River Cats were once again defeated, 10-9.
The River Cats starting pitcher, Callan Henkemeyer, threw two innings, giving up a hit, five runs, seven walks, and recording two strikeouts. Nick Proshek threw four innings, giving up five hits, three runs, one walk, and recording two strikeouts, and Andy Johnson threw one inning, giving up one hit, two runs, and recording three strikeouts.
Offense was led by Cory Schmidt, who went 2 for 3 for two RBIs, earning a walk, and stealing a couple of bases. Ty Carper went 3 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases, and scoring two runs. Richard Thompson went 2 for 4 for an RBI, and Cole Gueningsman went 1 for 3 for an RBI, earning a walk, one stolen base, and scoring one run.
Jack Grell went 2 for 5 for two RBIs, and Zach Schmidt went 1 for 4 for one RBI, earning a walk and scoring two runs. Henkemeyer went 1 for 1 for an RBI and a walk, and Adam Smith earned a walk, a stolen base, and scoring a pair of runs.
Justin Houge earned a walk, stole a base, and scored a run, and Jake Carper scored a run and stole a base.
The River Cats next game against their Sauk Valley League foes the Big Lake Yellow Jackets was a win for the team, 4-3. A good game, it was tied one to one going into the fifth inning when the River Cats added a run and then put up two more in the seventh.
Jake Carper started on the mound, throwing six innings, where he gave up five hits, one run, two walks, and recorded three strikeouts. Jack Grell threw a relief inning, giving up five hits, two runs, one walk, and recording one strikeout.
The final two innings were thrown by Ty Carper, who issued one walk and recorded a pair of strikeouts.
The River Cats offense was led by Justin Houge, who went 1 for 4 for two RBIs and was hit by a pitch. Callen Hinkemeyer went 2 for 4 for an RBI, and Cole Gueningsman went 2 for 3, earning a pair of walks and scoring two runs.
Carper went 2 for 3, earning a pair of walks and scoring a run. Jake Carper went 1 for 4, earning a walk, Jack Grell earned a pair of walks and scored a run, and Jack Schmidt and Al Smith both earned a walk.
Clear Lake Lakers
The Clear Lake Lakers started off with a great win against the Sartell Stone Ponies 19-7. Eight players collected hits, giving their pitchers a great deal of support. Their starting pitcher, Mike Smith, threw seven recorded innings to earn the win, giving up nine hits, six runs, eight walks, and recording six strikeouts.
Brett Knudsen threw one relief inning, giving up two hits, two walks, one run, and recording one strikeout.
The Lakers offense was led by Blake Brown, who went 2 for 5 with a double for two RBIs; he scored a pair of runs and was hit by a pitch. Hayden Fassler went 3 for 4 for two RBIs, earned a walk, scored two runs, and was hit by a pitch.
Knudsen went 2 for 5 for three RBIs, earning a walk and scoring three runs. Jake Samuelson went 1 for 3 with a homerun and a sacrifice fly for three RBIs. He earned a walk, scored two runs, and was hit by a pitch. Ryan Janzen went 1 for 4 for two RBIs, earning a walk, scoring two runs, and was hit by a pitch.
Justin Hagstrom went 1 for 4 for an RBI, earning two walks and scoring three runs. Matt Krepp went 1 for 4 for an RBI, stole a base, scored a run, and was hit by a pitch. Jordan Golombiecki was credited with two RBIs, earning two walks, one stolen base, and scoring a pair of runs. Eric Faust went 1 for 4, earning a walk, scoring two runs, and was also hit by a pitch.
The Lakers next game against their Sauk Valley League rivals the Foley Lumberjacks was a loss, 4-1. Starting pitcher Jordan Golombiecki threw five and one third innings, giving up three hits, four runs, four walks, and recorded three strikeouts. Ryan Skymanski threw three and two thirds innings, giving up one hit and issuing one walk.
Offense was led by Jake Samuelson, who went 1 for 4 with a homerun. Matt Korte went 2 for 4, Tyler Maurer went 1 for 4, Golombiecki went 1 for 3, and Matt Krepp earned a walk.
