Carter Reckelberg, a youth track and field athlete at Becker Intermediate School, was named 2017 USATF Minnesota 9/10-year-old Male Athlete of the Year. Carter was selected by the USA Track and Field Minnesota Board of Directors for his accomplishments from the 2017 season. All the award recipients attended an award banquet held Saturday February 3rd at the Braemar Country Club in Edina.
Last summer he participated in USATF and AAU state and regional meets where he competed against athletes from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North and South Dakota. He competed in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, and the long jump. Some of the highlights of his 2017 season include:
• 13 first place finishes, 1 second place finish, and 1 third place finish.
• USATF State Meet record in the Long Jump 9/19 yr. old male.
• AAU State Meet record in the Long Jump 10 yr. old male
• USATF Regional Meet record in the Long Jump 9/10 yr. old male.
• Tied the All-Time MN record in the Long Jump 4.68m (15’4”) 9/10 yr. old male.
• AAU National Meet qualifier in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump.
• USATF National Meet qualifier in the 200m, 400m, and Long Jump.
