Each meet, Emily Quill finds new ways to shine on the diving board for the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team. With a pair of MIAC dual meets Friday and Saturday, this past weekend was no exception.
Quill won three of the four events she competed in, set one school record and moved up in program history two more events in duals against St. Olaf and Gustavus. For more impressive performances, the first year is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
In Friday’s home dual against St. Olaf, Quill swept the one- and three-meter boards for the third time this season. She won the one-meter, six-dive competition with a score of 238.95, and her three-meter (six-dive) score of 247.05 is a personal best and the third-best score in program history.
Saturday Quill competed in an invitation-style meet for the first time in her collegiate career, completing 11 dives on both the one- and three-meter boards. She won the one-meter competition with a score of 443.65 – which breaks the previous school record by more than 20 points. On the three-meter board, she took third with a score of 428.00, which is fourth in program history and just 15 points away from the CSB record.
As the MIAC Championships draw closer, Quill currently has the best six- and 11-dive scores in the conference, and is second on the three-meter (six-dive) list and third on the three-meter (11-dive) list. She and her teammates compete in another invitation-style meet Saturday, Feb. 1, when the Saint Benedict divers head down the road to St. Cloud State for the Huskies’ diving invite. The swimmers are at the Minnesota Challenge Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
