Quill Making Splash At Csb

Just two meets into her College of Saint Benedict swim and dive career,  Emily Quill has already proven that has the potential to be one of the top divers in not only the MIAC, but in the nation.

After jumping into CSB’s all-time top 10 in the first meet of her career, Quill recorded a national qualifying mark Saturday at the Hamline Invite. For her impressive performance, she is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

After starting her career with the third-best one-meter dive score in CSB history, Quill improved on that score by more than six points Saturday morning. Her one-meter, six-dive score of 255.50 is a national qualifying mark, and means that she just has to hit a qualifying score once more this season in order to earn a spot at the NCAA Central Zone meet in March.

Should she qualify, it would mark the second straight season that CSB has had a diver competing at the zone meet. Mallory Jarvi became CSB’s first swimmer or diver to compete in the postseason since 2002 when she qualified for the 2019 NCAA Central Zone meet.

Not only was Quill’s score good enough to put her in the mix to make nationals, it is also the second-best score in program history, and seven points shy of the school record. She is undefeated on the one-meter board this season after winning at the St. Kate’s Pentathlon and the Hamline Invite.

Quill also finished second in the three-meter diving competition and jumped into the top 10 in program history – in her first time competing on the three-meter board. Quill’s score of 203.50 is sixth-best in CSB history.

CSB diving coach Jon Hazen said Saturday that Quill is “steady and consistent, which is huge in diving.”

Quill said she is “excited and ready to continue to improve and go farther,” with her ultimate goal this season being to make nationals.

After taking first at the four-team Hamline Invite Saturday, Quill and her teammates are back in action Nov. 2, when they head back to St. Paul for the Macalester Invite.

Quill stayed undefeated on the one-meter board, moved up in CSB’s all-time top 10 and recorded a national qualifying mark Saturday at Hamline. For her big day, she is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week!

Emi is the daughter of Trevis and Tana Quill.
