Quill Heading To Nationals!

For the first time since 2002, the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team will have a representative at the NCAA Championships.

First year diver Emily Quill of Becker qualified for nationals on both the one- and three-meter diving boards after top-10 finishes on both at the NCAA Central Zone meet this past weekend. She finished eighth on the one-meter board Friday to start the competition, and then finished 10th Saturday on the three-meter board to wrap up the weekend and secure a spot at the national championships.

Quill is Saint Benedict’s first national qualifier since 2002 when Katie Kuhlmann qualified in both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke races. The last diver to qualify for CSB was Katie Macy in 1997.

Quill is one of 29 divers competing on each board. She was the only MIAC diver to qualify. Earlier this season, she set CSB’s one-meter, six-dive record at Macalester, and the three-meter, 11-dive record at the Carleton Invite. She also recorded the third-best three-meter, six-dive score in program history as a first year, as well as the fourth-best three-meter, 11-dive score.

The 2020 NCAA Championships run March 18-21 in Greensboro, N.C. The one-meter diving competition is Thursday, March 19, and the three-meter competition in Saturday, March 21. Prelims are at 10 a.m. each day and finals are at 6 p.m. The top eight finishers earn All-American honors.
