Prom Leaves Coach Short Handed At Jordan

The Becker boys golf team traveled to Jordan last weekend to participate in a two-day tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course. Weather was cold, rainy and windy on day one and cool and windy on day two.

Twelve teams from around the state converged on Jordan Friday morning including Zimmerman and Delano from the area.

After the first day, Becker was in third place with Michael Sogard shooting a 77 and Jackson Fluck a 78 to lead the team. Alex Stanz had an 85 as well as Caleb Foster and Brandon Abrahamson a 93 and Joey Perry a 95.

Because of Becker’s prom  Saturday, Coach Dan Olson  lost three of his key players so day two ended with a “failed to qualify” designation for the team as Olson had just three golfers.  Fluck, Sogard and Stanz finished with a 78, 89 and 89 with Fluck finishing in fifth place, Sogard in 15th and Stanz 33rd.

The tournament was won by Dane Waldron of Clear Lake, IA, shooting a two-day total of 144. Tanner Schnathorst of Detroit Lakes took second (147).

Albany Meet
Monday, Becker traveled to Albany to play in a Granite Ridge Conference meet and the Bulldogs came home with a two-stroke win over Cathedral.

Becker was led by Sogard, who shot a 79 and finished second to David Schneider of Albany. Stanz finished in fourth with a solid 81, Fluck took home eighth with an 83 and Foster an 84 and 11th place.

The team finished with a 327 score.

Team Scores:
1). Becker 327; 2). Cathedral 329; 3). Albany 332; 4). Little Falls 346; 5). Milaca 373; 6). Mora 375; 7). Zimmerman 397; 8). Foley 405.

Zimmerman Invite
Wednesday, the Bulldogs traveled to play conference foes at Elk River Country Club for a nine-hole round. The weather was ideal and Coach Olson said the greens were rock hard and fast which probably caused his team’s scores to be a bit higher than normal.

Cathedral (163) took the tournament with a one-stroke win over Becker (164).

Stanz and Adam Schug (tied for third) shot 40’s to lead Becker and Sogard and Foster (9th and 10th) shot 42’s. Fluck came in at a 46 to finish 24th.

The season standings show Cathedral leading the conference with 1,337 points compared to 1,340 for Becker. Albany is close behind in third with 1,386 points followed by Little Falls (1,399), Milaca (1,468), Mora (1,522), Zimmerman (1,522) and Foley (DNQ).

Up next for Becker is a meet against Annandale Monday at Annandale Southbrook Golf Course, followed by a conference meet at Stones Throw Golf Course in Foley and a conference match Thursday at Little Falls.
