Pitching, Defense Help Guide The Bulldogs To A 5 4 Record

The Becker Bulldog baseball team played three games this week and won all three to improve to 6-5.
The Bulldogs are 3-5 and in fifth place in the Granite Ridge Conference. 
Becker 4, Sartell 3
The Bulldogs hosted Sartell last Friday and came away with a one run victory.
Cody Gruenhagen pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on five hits. Head Coach Chuck Stanger lauded Gruenhagen and the defensive play behind him.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs with two outs in the first on three straight doubles.  Gruenhagen hit a double to right center field, followed by a double to left by Eric Blomgren followed by a double to left center by Tyler Thorson scoring Gruenhagen and Blomgren.  
 
Sartell scored one in the second inning and two in the third inning to jump ahead but  Becker came back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs when Thorson tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a hit by Clayton Gallus. Gallus stole second base and scored on a base hit by Matt Yoerg to complete the scoring.  
 
Becker 7, Princeton 2
Monday, Becker traveled to Princeton and Coach Stanger had his grandson, Andrew Stanger, start on the mound. Andrew threw a complete game, giving up three hits and no earned runs while striking out eight.
 
Coach Stanger again saw his Becker defense play solid in the field with John Mann and Connor Rolf making some outstanding plays.  
 
The Bulldogs hit the ball hard during the first five innings, but the ball went right to  a Princeton player. However, Becker started finding holes in the sixth and the result was an impressive seven-run outburst.
 
Leading the hitting for the Bulldogs were Clayton Gallus, going 3-for-5 with three RBI's,  Jake Fobbe going 2-for-5 and Gruenhagen going 1-for-4 with a double. 
 
Princeton scored one unearned run in the third inning and one in the seventh.   
 
Becker 7, Zimmerman 2
Tuesday, it was a rematch game against Zimmerman who had beaten Becker in their first game of the season by a score of 7-6  April 10.
 
Becker got their revenge and completed a sweep of three games this week with great defense and solid pitching.
 
Casey Vesledahl threw the first five innings to pick up the win, giving up two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. Fobbe relieved Vesledahl and went the last two innings giving up zero hits an zero runs.   
 
The game was tight until the fourth inning when the Bulldogs crossed the plate seven times.
 
Leading the Bulldogs in hitting was Gruenhagen, Vesledahl, Fobbe and Thorson. 
 
The Bulldogs played at Monticello Friday, then host  Albany  Monday at 5 p.m. and then travel to Mora Tuesday (5 p.m) and Foley Thursday for a doubleheader (4 p.m.).
