Pirates To Host 5k For Cancer

The Relay for Life team - Pirates of the CUREibbean - invites all athletes and generous contributors to their third annual Run, Fight, Cure 5K fun run/walk Sat., May 31.

Team Captain Carly Pruszinske has organized the event over the years and the proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society.

Approximately 50 runners and walkers battled the wind and the cold last year to benefit the Pirates of the Cureibbean Relay For Life team in their cause. Pruszinske — along with Sierra Hietala, Jessica Robertson, Sharon Meyer, Paula Pruszinske, Erin Aho, Ken and Connie Bauman and Megan Bratt — spearheaded the race and raised nearly $3,000 on the day.

The meeting point for the run/walk is at Becker City Hall. Registration is $20 and signup is from 8 to 8:50 a.m. The run starts at 9 a.m. To guarantee a preferred t-shirt size, participants must register by May 17.

At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer – just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!

In more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries, Relay For Life events comprise the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Each Relay For Life event is special to its community, but the movement's true power lies in the combined commitment of thousands of participants, volunteers, and supporters to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer.

The racers will be running rain or shine and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers.
