The Pirates of the CUREibbean 5k run/walk scheduled for May 31 has been cancelled due to lower-than-expected participation.
The Pirates — a Relay for Life cancer support group — had been hosting the run for the last two years to aid the American Cancer Society.
Approximately 50 runners and walkers battled the wind and the cold last year to benefit the Pirates of the CUREibbean Relay For Life team in their cause. Pruszinske — along with Sierra Hietala, Jessica Robertson, Sharon Meyer, Paula Pruszinske, Erin Aho, Ken and Connie Bauman and Megan Bratt — spearheaded the race and raised nearly $3,000 on the day.
No word yet on whether the support group will resurrect the event for 2015.
