The Becker boys tennis team once again has a state entrant, as this year the doubles tandem of Landon Peterson and Sawyer Brown captured the section title and with it a berth in the MSHSL State Tennis Championships.

“Landon and Sawyer went 3-0 on the day!” an excited Coach Hokan Bengtson said after the section meet.  

They won their first match 6-3, 6-1, before taking on Sartell’s top team and coming out ahead 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the title match.  There, they won 6-0, 7-6 (5) to capture the crown.

They will advance to the state tournament and will play on June 5.

Troy Nuest also had a very respectable showing at the section meet, as he fell to the eventual champion in the opening match, 4-6, 3-6.

“Troy had another great season finishing 23-6, playing mostly #1 and #2 singles,” Bengtson said.
