Paulson, Andres Each Win 75th Career Match At Rogers’ Meet

 
The Becker Bulldogs wrestling team continues their winning streak, coming in first at their home meet Dec. 21 after defeating all three schools they were matched against by large margins, and third at the Rogers’ meet Dec. 28.
 
Quad Home Meet
 
When the Quad was over, final scores revealed the most points going to the Bulldogs. In their first round against United South Central (USC) Becker came out on top 65-6, they won again in their second round against Buffalo 57-15, and saved their best for the final round against Moorhead, beating them 69-6.
 
Other team results were Moorhead vs USC, 42-30, USC vs Buffalo 36-34, Moorhead vs Buffalo 40-27, and Buffalo vs USC 37-36.
 
The wrestlers were at the top of their game, with three athletes overcoming their opponents in each of their three matches, and another six winning all three through a combination of falls, decisions and forfeits.
 
In the 106 lbs. class., Kaden Rish won each of his rounds, the first two through forfeits (6-0), (6-0) and the third against Moorhead in a fall at 2:26 (6-0).
 
113 lbs. class Ethan Duncombe also won his first two rounds through forfeits (6-0), (6-0) and beat his Moorhead opponent in a decision (3-0).
 
Ethan Anderson (120 lbs.) was one of the athletes who overcame each of his opponents; major decision against USC (4-0), fall at 1:18 against Buffalo (6-0), and another fall against Moorhead at 1:28 (6-0).
 
Mason Doucette (126 lbs.) overcame his USC opponent in a decision (3-0), won a forfeit against Buffalo (6-0) and took down his Moorhead opponent with a fall at :32 (6-0).
 
In the 132 lbs. class, Jake Nelson won his first round against USC in a forfeit (6-0), defeated Buffalo with a decision (3-0) and overcame Moorhead with a fall at :56 (6-0).
 
Lukas Paulson (138 lbs.) won his first round against USC with a fall at 1:22, earned a forfeit against Buffalo (6-0) and defeated his Moorhead opponent in a decision (3-0).
 
Although he fought well, Kevin Andres (145 lbs.) was defeated by USC in a decision (0-3), and then won his next two matches in forfeits (6-0), (6-0).
 
Logan Jurek (152 lbs.) also lost to his USC opponent in a decision (0-3), then won against Moorhead by forfeit (6-0).
 
Alexander Berglund competed in the 152 lbs. class against Buffalo, but lost in a decision (4-0). Competing again USC in the 160 lbs. class, he overcame his opponent in a fall at 1:32 (6-0).
 
Kylen Rish competed at 160 lbs. in the second and third rounds, beating Buffalo in a fall at 2:41 and Moorhead in a forfeit (6-0). He also competed at 170 lbs. against USC, overcoming his opponent with a fall at 3:32 (6-0).
 
Caden Dewall competed against Buffalo and Moorhead in the 170 lbs. class, defeating the first with a fall at 1:06 (6-0) and the second through decision (3-0). At 182 lbs. he defeated his USC opponent in a major decision (4-0).
 
Dylan Kolby beat Moorhead through forfeit in the 182 lbs. class (6-0); Becker forfeited the class against Buffalo.
 
Nicholas Goth (195 lbs.) won his first round against USC through forfeit (6-0) and came out fighting in his second round against Buffalo, beating his opponent in a decision (3-0). Although he fought hard again in his final round against Moorhead, his opponent managed to defeat him in a fall at 1:11 (0-6). 
 
Brayden Weber (220 lbs.) won all three of his rounds, the first through forfeit (6-0), the second in a decision (3-0) and the third with a fall at 1:55 (6-0).
 
The Bulldogs’ heaviest weight athlete, Kolbe Braun, overcame his USC opponent with a fall at 2:37, was edged out against Buffalo (0-6) and came back with another fall against his Moorhead opponent at 1:10 (6-0).
 
Rogers Holiday Matness
 
The Bulldogs’ varsity team had a great tournament performance at the Rogers Royal Holiday Matness Invitational meet Dec. 28, placing third with 144 points and nine place winners against a field of 19 teams.
 
The team’s three championships were earned by Lukas Paulson at 138 lbs., (16-2) with a decision, Kylen Rish at 160 lbs., (15-3) with a fall, and Caden Dewall at 170 lbs., (12-0) with a sudden victory.
 
Second place was earned by Jake Nelson at 132 lbs., (16-1) and third place was earned by Ethan Anderson at 120 lbs., (15-4).
 
The Bulldogs’ place winners rounded out with Brayden Weber at 220 lbs., (14-3) in fourth place, Kevin Andres at 145 lbs., (14-4) in fifth place, and Nick Goth at 195 lbs., (11-8) and Alex Berglund at 145 lbs., (4-3) both earning sixth places.
 
The Bulldogs’ junior varsity team also had a good team performance at the meet with 12 place winners.
 
Championships were earned by Kaden Rish (95), Adam Jurek (138), and Alex Lumley (152).
 
Second places were earned by Dylan Riedinger (120). and Ryan Nelson (138), and third places were earned by Ethan Duncombe (106), Joseph Goth (152) and Luke Braun (220).
 
JV’s place winners rounded out with Isaac Regel (145), Bryce Kuschel (160) and Dylan Weber (170) earning fifth places and Dylan Kolby (182) earning sixth.
 
Two of the Bulldogs, Lukas Paulson and Kevin Andres, won their 75th career matches during the tournament. 
 
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa took first place at the meet with 180 points and Rogers took second with 159 points.

The Bulldogs’ next meet was at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa High School on Jan. 4, which will be reported on in next week’s Citizen-Tribune. Their next varsity meet will be at home on Jan. 11.
