As the spring season arrives (and the spring weather, hopefully with it), staff at Pebble Creek Golf Course held their annual open house Saturday to enjoy some hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and learn about the numerous amenities the city enterprise has to offer.
Director of Golf Troy Malo chatted with the dozens of guests and served from behind the bar at times. Members of the men’s and women’s clubs had tables set aside to introduce their leagues and get people to sign up.
“It’s always great to get people together who are like-minded about golf,” said Malo. “We’ve made some changes and reduced some rates and as soon as the weather catches up, we should have a really good year here at Pebble Creek.”
This season, council decided to drastically reduce the season pass price structure on the Local 9 and the daily play rates. As of this year, an individual season pass to play unlimited golf on the Local 9 is just $250 plus tax.
For the budding tour player in the family, the junior pass is $100 with a junior range pass for only $75. So for $175, the youngsters can play and practice all summer long for just $175 plus tax.
Malo mentioned too that all season passes include Footgolf on the Local 9 and daily rates have also been reduced with juniors playing for just $5 and adults $10 plus tax and the Local 9.
League sign-ups are occurring with sign-up sheets and info being available at the pro shop or printed from Pebble Creek’s web page. Tuesday, the women’s club offers nine and 18-hole options while the men’s club also has nine and 18-hole options as well as some weekend events.
New this year is a Thursday Social League, open to both men and women. The league is based entirely on socializing and any competition is decided among the peers before teeing off on the first hole.
The league is all about building comradery and new friendships,” said Malo.
The social league will have a 6:30 p.m. shotgun start with start times possibly adjusted to accommodate course events. The league will play both the championship and the Local 9 courses throughout the summer.
Malo also plans to host a couples night on Fridays where partners will participate once a month in nine holes (plus cart, meal and a rail drink or tap beer.) for $30. It will begin with a 6 p.m. shotgun start and rotate on all three 9’s. Malo also hopes to have some prizes along with on-course events such as closest to the pin and longest putt.
Malo says Pebble Creek will be hosting a variety of golf tournaments and events this year including a fun, community-based outdoor concert on the driving range. Chris Hawkey will be the featured concert with Outside Recess playing as the warm-up band.
New golf carts are arriving sporadically this spring and the units will be an upgrade to the old carts, featuring an automatic break, improved cushioning on the seats, a larger bag well and USB ports to plug in mobile devices or portable speakers.
The bar and grill will be open during the golf season and is stocked with a variety of the best spirits, house wines and many local brews — along with the commercial favorites. The staff will be adding new appetizers, burgers and sandwiches to the menu and they also will have some options for the kids and a few salads for those who are watching what they eat.
Pebble Creek will once again be hosting the 5AA Section Golf Tournament June 2 and 6 as well as the 1A State Tournament June 14-15.
Next month, May 15, Pebble Creek will be holding a Pebble Creek Classic two-person best ball event. Entry fee is $120 for the team that includes a 27-hole green fee, cart, range balls, prize pool and a meal at The Grill when concluded. Sign-up deadline for the event is May 11.
July 24, Pebble Creek will be holding a Tri-Fecta, 27-hole scramble featuring three different cup sizes randomly placed throughout the 27 holes. The scramble will be four-person teams with gross scoring and no handicap adjustments. There will also be longest putt and closest-to-the-pin contests. Cost is $60 per player and includes the green fee, cart, prizes and a burger and brat buffet.
August 28, the golf course will be featuring a Superintendent’s Revenge event for four-person teams. It will be a Texas Scramble (best drive, play your own ball) and will have the men playing the black tees and the women and juniors playing the red tees. Fifty dollars is the entry fee which includes green fee and prizes (cart not included). A taco bar and awards presentation will follow in The Grill.
October 22, Pebble Creek will be hosting their annual Texas Big Cup three-person scramble using 8-inch cups. The tournament will start with a shotgun at 11:30 a.m. and teams will have a 20% combined handicap. Men will play from blue tees while women and juniors play from the red. Fifty dollars per player is the cost.
October 29, the golf course will hold a Skins Game in men’s and women’s divisions. Cost is $50 which includes green fee, cart, range balls, skins and inclusion in the closest-to-the-pin contest.
Starting June 6, Shannon Matthews will be heading up a Yoga for Golfers lessons for one-hour-and-a-half every Monday night. Matthews plans to incorporate flexibility, strength, balance, core conditioning and breathing awareness into the lessons. Her yoga class will also teach focus, relaxation and visualization techniques that’ll have an immediate and direct impact on ones game.
