Nothing soft about Becker’s softball team

Becker softball hit it off last Thursday when they played Alexandria for their season opener.

Becker pulled off an 8-2 win.

The game started to pick up at the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Ady Petty managed a single. What followed was a booming double hit by junior Jaimee Cook to make it 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

An unearned run was scored by Alexandria in the second inning which tied the game at 1-1. The Cardinals would then take the lead with another run during the third inning which increased the score 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Becker tied the game when senior Norah Fitzpatrick hit a double, followed by Cook hitting an RBI single. Becker’s momentum really took off when Kaylyn Patnode hit a two-run double, boosting Becker’s score up to four.

At this point, Alexandria’s infield had been struggling which worked in Becker’s favor.

Becker batters managed a couple more runs until senior Jackie Neumann capped off the rally with an RBI groundout.

The Cardinals tried to catch up in the sixth and seventh innings, but fell short which gave the Bulldogs the six-run win.

“Bella Hunter picked up the win in her first varsity start going all seven innings,” said Becker Head Coach Jason Baune.

Hunter’s pitching stats consisted of giving up eight hits, three walks, while striking out six.
