No Stopping The Dazzlers

There’s been no stopping the Becker Dazzlers competitive dance team this season, with each week proving stronger than the last and the team breaking three school records during their last three meets.

“I want to give a shout out to Megan Timm for being a phenomenal JV head/varsity assistant,” said Danzeisen. “We’ve broken school records the last three competitions!”

Jan. 24 the team traveled to Foley High School to compete at the girls’ varsity conference meet against Albany, Foley, St. Cloud Cathedral and Zimmerman. There they took second in jazz and third in kick.

“JV jazz won their division, a first for any Becker dance team,” said Coach Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen. “So that was very exciting.”

The top placements put the Dazzlers rank at second in the conference overall.

The team was out competing again on Jan. 26, this time at Mounds View High School for their girls varsity invitational.

It was JV jazz’s last time competing for the season. They placed third and received medals for the mini-sections meet.

“They did such a good job,” said Danzeisen. “Coach Megan Timm and I couldn’t be prouder of how far all of the JV jazz dancers have come this year.”

Varsity kick took fourth place, coming out strong with the overall highest score in the history of the team with 346 points. They trailed just behind the state going/medaling teams from Faribault, Totino Grace and Belle Plaine.

Varsity jazz also had a strong showing, taking third place and again trailing behind the state going teams from Fairbault and Totino Grace.

“We’re really looking forward to going into sections week with this building momentum,” said Danzeisen. “We’re really planning on fine-tuning everything, staying focused and staying in the momentum this week to ensure we are as prepared for sections this coming weekend as we possibly can be.”

The top three placing teams at sections will advance to the state tournament.

“This is the closest Becker has ever been to qualifying,” said Danzeisen. “Last year jazz was trailing by 30 points going into sections and we ended up in fourth place. We were trailing more than 50 points in kick. This year both kick and jazz are 10-15 points (out of 500) away from the usual state advancing teams in our section.”

The Dazzlers will be competing at sections in Alexandria today, (Feb. 2). If they qualify, they will be competing at the girls varsity state tournament at the Target Center Feb. 15.
