No Games Due To Snow: Coach Advises For A Poem

With Old Man Winter still rearing his ugly head, no outdoor sports teams are participating in their games for at least another week.

Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Hugh Hovde gave the following report on his team and their delayed participation in spring sports:

“Twas the start of the season, and spirits were low; The lacrosse fields were covered with a foot of snow.

The players were stuck all snug in a gym; while visions of playing started to dim.

I with my whistle and my assistant in her cap, watched as winter took a second lap.

When in the gym there arose such a clatter; I sprang from my funk to see what was the matter.

When, what to my wonderful eyes should appear, the seniors decided to save their last year.

The girls were moving so lively and quick; I knew then I mustn’t be so strict.

Bounding down the floor these players came; I whistled and shouted and called them by name.

Run Macy and Jessie, run Allie and Reilly, run Jamie too; Rachel and Kirsten and Holly you run thru.

Kinsley to the top of the arc, Sammie stop that ball; Now run the play, run the play, run the play all.

They spoke not a word but went straight to their play; leading the team so they girls would not stray.

At the end of practice they gave thanks to the Lord; Knowing His blessings must not be ignored.

But I heard them exclaim as they left for the night; Lacrosse will be played when the timing is right!”
