The Big Lake girls’ basketball team is under new leadership this season with Makenna Vanzant stepping into the role of head coach. Coach Vanzant will look to improve upon last season, which saw the Hornets finish 12-15 with a first-round playoff exit.
The team has gotten off to an 0-2 start, but is looking to get into the win column when their schedule continues next week. The rest of their schedule goes as follows 12/10 vs. Coon Rapids, 12/12 @ Mound Westonka, 12/13 vs. North Branch, 12/16 vs. Princeton, 12/19 @ Zimmerman, 12/27-28 @ Fergus Falls Tournament, 1/7 vs. St. Francis, 1/10 @ Monticello, 1/14 vs. St. Cloud, 1/17 vs. Becker, 1/21 vs. Chisago Lakes, 1/23 vs. Cambridge-Isanti, 1/24 @ Buffalo, 1/28 @ North Branch, 1/30 @ Princeton, 2/4 vs. Zimmerman, 2/6 @ St. Francis, 2/8 @ Cambridge-Isanti, 2/11 vs. Monticello, 2/13 vs. Spectrum, 2/15 @ Duluth Denfeld, 2/18 @ Becker, and 2/21 @ Chisago Lakes.
Section playoffs begin on February 24th.
This year’s roster consists of Olivia O’Brien, Ashley Fitzgibbons, Emily Tuberville, Kaelyn Besler, Paisleigh White, Shiloh Elliott, Shay France, Mya Knapp, Greta Layton, Emma Greischar, Alexa Parks, Natalie McCormack, and Maci Dolecki.
Joining Vanzant on the coaching staff are Emma Nielsen and Ella Strube.
