BECKER ASSISTANT COACH MIKE LUNDEEN will receive the Butch Nash award in April for his outstanding coaching for the Becker Bulldog football team.

Mike Lundeen To Receive Butch Nash Award

Becker Football Offensive Coordinator Mike Lundeen is one of 12 state coaches set to receive the Butch Nash award, to be presented at the 2015 Minnesota Football Coaches Association’s awards banquet in April.

The criteria for the Butch Nash award includes the coach needs to be an active football coach at the high school level, an assistant who is a “front-liner” (in the limelight, under the gun, recipient of praise and/or criticism approaching the level of the head coach), 15 or more years coaching and be a member (along with the head coach) of the MHSFCA.

The award — named after longtime Minnesota Gophers Assistant Coach Butch Nash — recognizes assistant coaches who have played a prominent role in the school’s football program for many years.

In 1991, Becker Coach Tom Chirhart was the first (and previously only) other Becker coach to receive the honor.

The 52nd annual banquet, scheduled for Sat., Apr. 2 at the Doubletree Hotel in Minneapolis, will also feature presentations for 2016 hall-of-fame inductees, sub-district coaches of the year, section coaches of the year, class coaches of the year, state coach of the year, assistant coach of the year, the power of influence award, the Don Swanson award and the distinguished service award.

Mike, who is entering his 20th year as a coach in some capacity, is the son of Dwight and Pam and he has a brother (Matt) and a sister (Kristen). Mike previously was the head coach at Milaca from 1996-2001.

Dwight was inducted into the MFCA hall-of-fame in 2009.
