Jack Leuer set a new school record and took first in the 1600 meters at the Hamline Elite Meet last Friday. His time of 4:12.21 was over a second faster than the old school record of 4:13.54 set last year by Owen Layton.
Also at the Elite meet, Tayla Gassman took second in the wheelchair 100 meters in a time of 31 seconds.
Abe Nebo went 20’4” and finished 10th in the long jump.
Hornet athletes performed well in other meets in Monticello and at Big Lake over the past week.
At Monticello, Tayla Gassman won the wheelchair discus with a throw of 39’5” and the shot put at 17’2”. She was second in the 100 meters in 31.44 seconds and second in the 200 meters in 1:07.90.
Other notable performances last week:
Montell Hester ran the 100 meters in 11.90 and the 200 meters in 24.42.
Shiloh Elliott went 13.82 in the girls 100 meters.
Jackson Roehl ran the boys 110 hurdles in 17.35, with Kamal Bille two steps back in 17.51.
Maurice Yekeku had the team’s fastest time in the 400 meters at 55.76.
Campbell Slattery ran the 3200 meters in 13:04.66.
Chaz Hughes threw the discus 101’2”.
Greta Schwirtz threw the discus 78’10” and the shot put 29’5”.
Jerry Vazquez went 5’6” in the high jump.
Bennett Thieke had Big Lake’s longest distance in the long jump at 18 feet even.
Britta White went 14’11” in the long jump.
The Hornets competed in a meet at Princeton Thursday, results next week. They compete in the True Team Meet Tuesday at Cold Spring.
