Legion team beats Tigers twice, loses to Magic

The Big Lake Hornet Legion baseball team took two of three this week, beating Princeton twice and losing to Monticello in a shutout.

Big Lake 14, Princeton 3

Big Lake’s Samson Schlegel would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base in the July 23 game, as he drove in six runs on three hits to lead the Hornets past Princeton 14-3.

Schlegel drove in runs on a double in the fourth, a double in the sixth and a home run in the seventh.

The Hornets pulled away for good with six runs in the fourth inning. Zach Robeck singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run; Chad Boeckman singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, Schlegel doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored another run for Hornets.

Chandler Nagorski pitched the Hornets to victory, allowing two hits and two runs over two and a third innings. Brandon Stern threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Krone took the loss for Princeton. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out two.

Zeus Schlegel started the game for Hornets. He went three innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out five

The Hornets saw the ball well that day, racking up 14 hits in the game. Robeck, Schlegel, PrestonSchlegel, Dylan Robeck, and Zeus Schlegel all collected multiple hits for the Hornets.

Monticello 4, Big Lake 0

The Hornets fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 4-0 loss to Monticello Tuesday.

Monticello scored on a single by Brock Witola and a double by Axelberg in the second inning.

A single by Josh Hunt in the second inning was a positive for the Hornets.

Van Culin led Monticello to victory on the hill. He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Zach Robeck took the loss for Hornets. He lasted three innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one.

Hunt went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Hornets.

Monticello scattered seven hits in the game. Axelberg and Affeldt all had multiple hits for Monticello.

Big Lake 9, Princeton 1

The Hornets blew out Princeton 9-1, July 30.

The Hornets got on the board in the first inning when Preston Schlegel drove in one with a single.

The Hornets put up three runs in the second inning.

Zeus Schlegel was credited with the victory for Hornets. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Samson Schlegel, Josh Hunt, and Zach Robeck all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Peterson took the loss for Princeton. He surrendered seven runs on 10 hits over four innings, striking out four.

The Hornets racked up 13 hits in the game. Schlegel, Schlegel, Chandler Nagorski, Schlegel, and Hunt all collected multiple hits for Hornets. Schlegel went 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Hornets didn’t commit a single error in the field. Keenan Hjermstad had 12 chances in the field, the most on the team.
